Gary Pugh Spring 2014 - Paris fashion week (September 2013)

I thought Gary Pugh would kill it for Spring 2014, it was a slightly disappointing assumption. I know this angle, in fact models.com called it, which could be the beginning or benchmark for Pugh in representing and designing clothing for Sci-Fi movies ala Hollywood, with Queen's 1984 hit (for the shows finale) "I want to break free" (over dubbed with avant garade electro beats courtesy of the Fashion TV clip below) - is a distinct metaphor of a young designer looking for the next thing. There is definitely a futurist slant enveloping in clothing design, thankfully not a lot of 3D Printing (which I think is more hype than anything), but a lot of striking cuts, symmetrical and clean lines that is a show piece for modernism and/or futurism stylized aesthetics, which I call a dystopian elegance. It seems an industry trying to set or invigorate new styles and trends. Some designers pull it off well, others not so much. Pugh's Spring 2013 was far superior and risqué in that sense. This new collection relies more on a subtle projection, but at the same time a safeness with the color range and design, from black/white and grey to turquoise, cream/dull yellow latex overlay tops (which works really well). Despite the modernist slant there is a rigidness to some of the designs. Yes, the future will be dark but some sex appeal would not go astray.
