Judith Butler - "Your Behavior Creates Your Gender"

From Big Think on youtube, a great summary of Judith Butler's philosophy on gender roles and the massive influences that culture has on shaping male and female expectations. Yes that age old argument of the nature/nurture with it's waring sides.  Of late it is at a lull, I suspect it will engage again.

Camille Paglia (who has criticized Butler in the past) the self described dissent feminist has shot a salvo while at a recent AU invited speech (Comet Camille Paglia comes to AU and talks gender) but it seemed like sporadic firing in all directions, mostly aimed at the feminist camps that side with cultural pressure/identity as an restriction/oppression and manipulation of gender roles - and the harm that it brings i.e mysognism, violence against women etc.  As she looks for allies from the apologist "we have been feminised" male blogsphere camps, which she will find, especially with her reactionary excuse for the 'feminisation of men' and 'that female dominance and it's male role reversal' which in her opinion leads or will lead to the collapse of society.  Her Weimar example is so off the mark it's almost astounding an intellectual would stoop that low, especially to justify the lustmord (sex crime) crimes against women in Germany during that period; that the collapse, in her opinion, of 1920s Weimar (thus becoming Nazi Germany) was solely based on women shifting roles (replacing male power, whilst most of the men were at war during World War One) and disrupting the male/female biological roles.

It would be prudent that Butler, amongst others should step to the tirade by Paglia, before it adds more momentum to the anti-feminist hysteria that is slowly but surely building via the Internet.
