Same players, with some historic similarities to the last cold war, that being the comparable time-frames of 1979–1985 merging with this current cold war redux.  However this version will have Internet hacking/I-War (once the cold war gets a little hotter), essential services being shut off and other mayhem attached to the electronic mainframes of the opposing countries.   All the while historically it also corresponds with the late Iosif Shklovsky (Russian astronomer and astrophysicist) in 1966 laying out the points that may lead to humanities end.   And since we are recycling our self-destructive cues again:

"Profound crises lie in wait for a developing civilization and one of them may well prove fatal. We are already familiar with several such critical (situations):
(a) Self-destruction as a result of a thermonuclear catastrophe or some other discovery which may have unpredictable and uncontrollable consequences.
(b) Genetic danger.
(c) Overproduction of information.
(d) Restricted capacity of the individual's brain which can lead to excessive specialization, with consequent dangers of degeneration.
(e) A crisis precipitated by the creation of artificial intelligent beings."

In the meantime, a detailed policy brief released by the European Leadership Network, tilted: "Dangerous Brinkmanship: Close Military Encounters Between Russia and the West in 2014' has documented the 2014 near misses in this new cold war.
