A.Glass updates and insight (update 38) - modern decay (update 1)
Deserted Resort Village of San Zhi, Taiwan
More images of modern decay and mans hopeless and already defeated battle with nature and the elements, as far as modern architecture and design - as opposed to ancient civilizations that built monuments to withstand time.
The fascination with construction (architecture) and deconstruction of buildings and the decay that follows is one that represents the problem of modernization of our society in regards to building design, which if they learned from art, could make structures to last - or represent it's decay to symbolize the ages. It doesn't. In fact, if anything, architecture has failed as an art-form in the last seventy years.
Abandonment and then the onset of decay is actually an enthralling subject, hence websites dedicating the documentation of urban decline. In the last twelve years we have had a huge boom in real estate, more so in Asia countries like China, Vietnam - which have over built with cheap construction. All ready there are abandon cities in China that have only been completed a few years ago.
So in context, a building, or art piece, in someways should be made immortal. To outlive man, even on the onset of decay - it should still look like it will endure time. Up to the 1930's, this occurred, but quick paced modernization and economic arrogance has perpetuated a fast track growth - which as we all know now is doomed.
