The Master and Margareta (Mikhail Bulgakov)
(Animation - Trailer. Russia 2010)
Mikhail Bulgakov's (written between 1928 and 1940) book: The Master and Margareta is a classic and perfect satirical attack on convention, complacency and arrogance. Written at a time when Russian communism feverishly ascended in the late 1920s, Bulgakov's catharsis, enhanced with his use of characters that undermine and disrupt the cult of control and stability, ensured it was censored in Russia until 1973.
The Master and Margareta holds that age-old relevance νέμειν (Greek) "to give what is due". This time, it's a 'free market utopia' underwritten by our custodians of government which in-turn have perpetuated corporate cronynism mixed with celebrity vapors. All need a dose of Professor Woland (Satan) and his entourage (especially Behemoth the cat) to remind them of their mortality.
