I like Enfants Riches Déprimés only because it prescribes to an anti-fashion ethos, but as a modern day catchphrase, which, if looked at subjectively and in a paradoxical way, doesn't actually make sense. As Henri Levy's ultra selective retro punk brand of past reflections, sits in a nether world of exclusivity. Sans any of the digital feedback loops and what might be deemed marketable phrases, that somewhere, somebody has been able to use and promote (on social media platforms) with very little benefit or profit. Except claiming ego at an insatiable rate, much like those faded stars from the bygone punk era. To which Levy has based his entire collection off, yet not paying any homage to their specifics. Whilst keeping a low key profile. That I respect.
So, it ain't copyright to anybody past or present and with no interest in respecting these viral terms floating around in cyber space, which, as mentioned hold very little significance. Punk, as a collection of messy ideas from the past is littered with so much egotistical melodrama, while the last remaining founders debate the origins of its roots – all the while it has become a comical tune. And one, in the case of Levy, whose financial disposition has warranted, can rework and make a claim under the banner of Enfants Riches Déprimés. And he does this well. While the history of punk as far as its aesthetics may question its origination, it is of doubt Vivian Westwood and Malcolm McLaren were directly responsible for bridging the 1956-1972 French Situationist art movement as a key factor to the Do-it-Yourself Punk fashions, except they made money on crafting the aesthetics into a new (at the time) and directed way as oppose to the ad-hoc trends that followed thereafter. Enfants Riches Déprimés imprints this perfectly, even down to its limited range and pinpointed market place of an A B C and D listed 'celebrities'.
