Hyke. Fall 2020 Ready-to-Wear - Tokyo Fashion Week.
At the tail end of Milan Fashion Week February 2020 and the ensuing confusion that followed with Paris Fashion Week, in light of the Covid-19 virus knocking at the door of Europe, it was in respection a poor showing that the Fashion Weeks were staged at all. Now Europe, more so Italy and Spain have become the new epicenter of the viral outbreak, to which China has, apparently, reported a zero infection rate after their draconian lock down of the region of Hubei in January and February, centered around the city of Wuhan – which was, up until late last year, the main trading hub between Milan and Paris. Misinformation and secrecy when the initial outbreak started, mixed with a care free response earlier on, has unfortunately left the world grappling with a full blown pandemic. At this point in time, all Western governments, including Asia and the Middle East have now shut down everything to contain the outbreak, as they race to find a vaccine.
So, the ideal fashion shows now are the virtual ones, without an invited crowd or media in attendance. For Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2020, Yukiko Ode and Hideaki Yoshihara with their brand Hyke, streamed the whole show live via the label's website. Which, with enforced lockdowns occurring everywhere, will be the new norm for the time being.
The sleek, rugged and tailored styles that became one of the main trends of 2019, have been embraced by Ode and Yoshihara, with their modernist inspired lineations evident throughout Hyke's Fall array. From heavy laden wool one pieces, to some cleverly shaped Comme des Garçons inspired looks, the overall styles on show reflect a distinct and refined appeal.
An exceptionally well crafted collection from the Japanese brand Hyke.
