Viruses. Undead pathogens: the borrower and destroyer of life. (Part 4) COVID-19

Covid-19 or as it is known by its scientific term SARS-CoV-2, at the time of writing this article has infected 43 million and killed over 1 million worldwide.  A still unknown virus that does not adhere to seasonal influenza outbreaks, with unusual recovery problems seen after infection, which are not completely understood by scientists.  Since its discovery in Wuhan, China in September 2019, there was unfortunately overall a slow response in identifying the virus quickly as a new type of respiratory disease, as it began to spread through global trade routes, more particularly the fastest way of transmission, was tourism with its cross border  movement of people. Covid-19's dissemination throughout the world has been at an alarming rate, in just over eleven months of the first infections, in an ad hoc synchronization there was an attempt to contain what was deemed as the first wave of the pandemic, lockdowns throughout the world ensured.  However, as summer approached the Northern Hemisphere, without a vaccine or a united plan in dealing with the masses of crowds that would inevitably gather within European and American cities, it was in Spring of 2020 at the end of the first global quarantine for the pandemic, was also the beginning of what could be said was the discord of a society which was beginning to feel the impact of a micro entity.  Covid-19 once again spread through the gathering of crowds. 

As discussed in this series Viruses. Undead pathogens: the borrower and destroyer of life , despite Covid-19 being an undead entity that borrows life and in the process becomes a destroyer of life.  Its very existence is may hold a mystery, even though over the many thousands of years that plagues and virus outbreaks have come and gone, causing sociological and psychological disarray throughout civilization.  This new respiratory disease may have been in existence within the animal kingdom for millions of years, it has only now that it has jumped to the human biology.  Which has, without intention, showed up the intrinsic flaws within the human psyche in dealing with a microscopic entity and its complex perspective of where human beings stand with in the natural systems, .  More so, Covid-19 has tested the mantle of governing systems and their medical complexes.  To the point of a complete systemic failure. 

But, as it has happened countless times in history, it is the inaction and denial of governments usually earlier on that exacerbates the ferocity of a contagion, has not only been a contributing factor, but also the misinformation, mixed with fear when a new pathogen strikes – more so with Covid-19.  From the onset when it first appeared in China, a central planning economy, that attempted in a draconian way locking down whole cities and neighborhoods in containing the virus, initially played down the threat and to this day, remains evasive in regards to the impact that it has had on Chinese society.  In which globally, the virus since its discovery in late 2019, has shattered the global economy, more so the structure of cross boarder interactivity and commerce. Pressuring governments within its economic template, to experiment with quickly reopening up lock downed areas, after being quarantined, in an effort to reinvigorate local economies after lock downs suppressed the virus.  These quick and fumbled attempts at setting up an all clear, by its definition has been a risky gamble, hoping that the cross flows of people will adhere to the basic hygiene practices against an airborne virus, of course it is a gamble that hasn't paid off.  

This was always going to be the problem, when using economic modeling over the severity of the pandemic, with political wrangling to avoid the so called locking down of economies.  There has been no coherent plan or implementation of how to restructure an economy around a pandemic, with scores of political leaders worldwide who have now caught the virus, any efforts in creating a focused response in dealing with this deadly and highly contagions pantheon has been maintained in its disorder..
