David Koma. Spring 2027 - lookbook
David Koma's hedonism remains firmly locked in place, and his centrepiece being the amatory engine which he has delivered with all of his lookbook collections to date, and his Spring 2027 ramps up the carnal to climatic highs. With the theme of the collection being around the intensity of ice skating, more so controversial former competitive ice skater Tonya Harding, to which Koma wanted to reflect a rawer, and possibly more emotional complex determination to this collection, rather than a fluid sexual allure, as seen in prior lookbooks. Is this Koma's attempt at the Femme Fatale?
And the question has to be asked; is a liberated woman frightening to a man? Hence the myth creation, and denigration, that is usually always has a misogynistic undertone attached. As we all have the feminine and masculine in us, and to understand the bases of what it is to be human, is to respect the diversity of humanity, which ever choice of sexuallity that may entail. And it is that honesty, in its unbridled, and unrestricted overtures which gives us freedom from societal control. So, we bless is the feminine who breaks this stigma, not to sensationalise her, and Koma's latest array kinda does (breaking the stigma), in a roundabout way, or at least drawing from the manifestations of hedonic styles of the 1970s and 1980s, that did once reflect an eros of shared sexual power, albeit temporary, which comes from within, and not from fame and fortune.
Koma's Spring 2027 lookbook was shot in Los Angeles, ala his June Gloom, of cooler summer mornings and warm evenings, just as the fog begins to lift into midday, with the collection offering those flowing layers, as the temperature reaches a perfect point of not too cold and not too hot, aligning with that divine sweet spot for an evening tyst. With ankle length, silk evening dresses, open to the lower back, cropped blazers and revealing leggings. Koma's silk and feathers is very much on display, which is one of his stalwart fixtures, keeps the collection, beyond its focused, and intense amorist energy, mirroring a celebratoratry element, possible from the day after.
And as mentioned, everything is fleeting, so enjoy the moment, with deep respect to the other.
