Rick Owens. Women's Spring/Summer 2027 - Paris Fashion Week
Returning, or reiterating, his stalwart reloop, to the Palais de Tokyo, the 1937 Art Deco Monolith in Paris, Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2027 collection is also his return to form, in relation to his stoic "Doomsday Witches" which were born out of the post-COVID pandemic of 2020 and 2021, with Owens offering prophetic cues, that society, when it emerged out of the lockdowns, has taken a turn for the worst, with Fascism settling in everywhere throughout the world.
In similarity to the men's Spring 2027 collection this year in June, but less sadomasochistic ala showed in blistering Parisian heat, within its awkward looking bondage inspired arrays, the models walked down a slightly tilted metal ramp over the Palais de Tokyo pond, without Owens's oddly shaped "Kiss" (the conic rock band) platform glam boots, which appears not the most comfortable footwear from the Rick Owens stable. Yet, the women's collection feels more protective, serene, and focused, hence Owens's inscribing the title "STONE" to the collection, despite his three prong cryptic take on the metaphor, clearly, the stoic, for his latest collection, was the inspiration.
The color pallette, is of washed yellow and creams, intermixed with his avant garde black and grays, with flowing silk tunic dresses, cropped leather and denim jackets, with Owens's sourcing of various, and exclusive fabrics, such as, and he has used this before, Japanese surfer dyed denim, and industry nylon, apparently used for shipping containers, rewoven to be a wearable fabric. Owens's may have ensured that stocic was the overall representation with the collection, but there also appears to be an overture of wisdom with this collection, which the divine feminine, which in all of us, can teach. Dare I say, despite the Doomsday Witches labeling, there is also a Oracle, which offers the advice, the struggle may define our culture to become more open, against a society which may choose oppression over change, and so far, in Europe, just under half the countries in the European Union are now Far Right.
Also, as noted are the 1970s - esque eyelashes, seen as an exaggerated, science fiction inspired stylisation, his now recognizable black/stygian contact lenses, and the tube like tulle dresses, with hidden, or not so hidden pentagrams, being Owens, as he quoted from his show names in his trademark uppercase, "MY LITTLE PROTEST AGAINST JUDGMENTAL CONDEMNATION AND INTOLERANCE. WE CAN SEE THAT IT CAN BE HUMAN NATURE TO SUPERSTITIOUSLY DEMONIZE OTHERNESS."
