"Machines of the Occultus" Synopsis and promo card for THE GRAFT OF SHADOWS (Adrian Glass 2019)

Machines of the Occultus.

Kyla Lillias, born of a disposition.  To what ever trauma was manifested from her childhood, she cannot see any future, beyond a moment within a day.  Her memory resets, confined to the splinters of time.  The past fragmented, she relies on what her late father taught her.  To maintain the Graft, raised by a single father an old school hustler.  To set the play in a day, use what was deemed as a flaw when she was analyzed at school as a young girl and focus on her narrow frames of time.  What could been seen as a disadvantage, she has turned it around to become an advantage.  Survive.  Without succumbing to the reliance of being exploited. That many women, with a similarity to Kyla's childhood misfortune, would use and inevitably fall.
Kyla has rolled the dice and played the card, the tricks her father had shown her, as he resides in her thoughts.  Her only mentor.  The play is set.  She has just released her debut book, whilst setting up a literary agent, the city begins to fall into an economic recession.  Yet, her life from past to present has always being on the outside and looking in, the rise and decline of their world are meaningless to Kyla, unless she can scalp just enough to get by – till the next grift is set.  Calling her self a Neuro-paranormal investigator, she doesn't believe in ghosts.  But, she thinks of her father's street cunning.  As the pressure of just trying to make it to the next day mounts, strange events are occurring within the city.  It is until she receives a call from an elderly woman to report a phantasm that has appeared in her old apartment.  Kyla begins to see the Machines of the Occultus.
