David Koma. Spring/Summer 2026 lookbook - London Fashion Week.
(David Koma 2025)
Are we all gearing up for a renewed counterculture decade? As we are surly overdue for one, when literally most western countries are moving towards the Far Right, with America staring at Fascism under Donald Trump, with restrictions on freedom of expression are already being implemented, and what better fuck you to the structuralist establishment of authoritarianism, is a sexul liberation. Yes, we can reclaim it back after two decades of digital taboo via the misogynistic porn market, or at least shrink it down (excuse the pun) and send sexulalization into the dusbin of history. Is David Koma on the forefront of an amatory revolution, so we can all go back to the heyday of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s hedonism? We can only hope.
And yet, for his Spring/Summer 2026 collection, Koma offered a clue, which could align with the above question, by saying, "There had to be a sense of ease and a freedom of movement in the clothes that felt harmonious with the surroundings...The contrast shouldn’t be overpowering, but dramatic." And that is exactly what the counterculture years of the late 20th Century heardled in, way before the digital world warped out our psyche, by aligning the deluded mythos, of seeing ourselves as a product, whilst attuned to ego driven narcissism, while staring at a phone screen. Which in turn has essentially collapsed our interactive world, and blown intimacy up. Hedonism has a knack of suppressing ego. And if social media does indeed become tools of the Far Right propaganda, why not dump them? Yes, we await the massive Tik Tok boycotts, when Techno-Fascist Larry Ellison buys it from the Chinese government.
Referring to his latest collection as a "dangerous fairytale", as sexual freedom can appear confronting, and in some ways unsettling, particularly if we are not used to the idea, that sex, is just fucking, and a pleasurable act at that, which does not have to be for commitment or having a partner or being in a marriage. So, Koma's lookbook shots are very much playing with the risque, as a women's exposed nipples can have her account banned on social media platforms, yet a male is ok showing his. Wow! Did we go backwards. Koma has ensured that his eros on show is at full throttle, beautifully shot in and around Surrey Hills in the South East of England, as his whimsically, dark and amorous themed collection which very much offers, to the viewer, an inviting aesthetic. Centered around 1970s cocktail themed dresses, and a plethora of revealing ensembles, and as mentioned, all for the coming hedonic rebellion.
Do you dare enter The Garden of Earthly Delights?
