cults of the culture wars: fringe Far Right theories, to obscurity, and its metabolic rise into the digital age. The Fascist conspiracy theory fall back mode, when all else fails, scavenge and rebrand 1970s and 1980s pulp fiction. "The Camp of the Saints" of migrants taking over the world.

In 1973, a Far Right dystopian book was released called, "Le Camp des Saints" (The Camp of the Saints) written by Christo/Catholic proto-Fascist, pro-French colonist/explorer the late Jean Paul Raspail, the book itself is probably, for its time, one of the most racist, and racial conspiracy theory orinitated books (the later precursor being Renaud Camus's 2011 "Great Replancent" theory) written in the post World War Two period, detailing, as a predecessor to current rebranded Fascist paranoia, of migrants flooding into Western countries from a flotilla of rusted ships, under Raspail's so called "white guilt" conspiracy theory, initiated by "global elites", "liberals", and a weak Catholic church, to flood the world of non-white refugees.  Essentially, the book's premise, is the Western world has succumb, yes, via white guilt, to the waves of non-white refugees who have become more militant, while they enter every Western country en masse, displacing the "white" populations, with only a view Far Right combatants taking a stand (because the West governments are reluctant to send in their militaries, re: being labeled "racists" etc), and are ultimately killed by the 'hordes', with a ridiculously, as is most of the book, comical element towards the conclusion, where the Queen of England, allows (forced?) by the new immigrant world order to have her son marry a Pakistani migrant, and the last global bastion of white sovereignty is South Africa (a Fascist take on irony or humour?), eventually collapses under the weight of all these migrants.  

The Camp of the Saints was at the time of the early 1970s, a somewhat obscure release, despite the notoriety of Raspail as a being this mid-century, loveable French explorer and adventurer, living in a postcolonial France of the 1960s and 1970s.  The book release in 1973, with moderate exposure as a publication, sold only 15,000 copies, then later increasing its sales via word of mouth in France into the early 1980s, probably from at the time, the rise of the equally obscure Far Right French "National Front" party of the mid to late 70s and early 1980s, founded by the late Jean-Marie Le Pen.  And yet in 1975, the American book publishing company Charles Scribner’s Sons bought the rights, and commissioned a translation, which gained reviews from some large media outlets/newspapers in North America, the sales were not at all striking and was widely ignored by the general public, even dismissing the jacket lining quote, via the publishers, "A chilling novel about the end of the white world." which reveals the liberal openness, and largely, as mentioned, a dismissiveness, within a counterculture, Left politically, and social democratic world at the time, The Camp of the Saints was viewed nothing more than as an literature oddity, written by some aging French, crusty, Far Right nut.  

From Science Fiction republish in 1977, to 1980s 'unauthorised' hijack of the novel by Billionaire Eco-Fascist Cordelia Scaife May.  

With the book publisher Charles Scribner’s Sons not seeing much profit from the hardcover of Camp of the Saints, the rights were handed to Science Fiction and speculative fiction book publishing company Ace Books in 1977, as 'apocalyptic' pulp fiction melodrama, with sales also running below par, and most American readers, as mentioned, not invigorated or interested by the post World War Two proto-Fascist Jean Paul Raspail, and his hopes of masking a dystopian, Sci-Fi novel about a conspiracy theory of mass migration destroying "white", Western Civilizations, in steps Billionaire Eco-Fascist Cordelia Scaife May.   Born into the Mellon Bank family dynasty, which controlled Gulf oil and aluminum projects throughout America, and by her 20s, she, apparently, already had a net worth close to a half a billion dollars.  Snaps after her 1st failed marriage, becomes a recluse, obsessively bird watching, and begins, despite her wealth being obtained by environmental degradation, to blame overpopulation, namely migrants, who she claimed, "breed like hamsters" and were invading America "on all fronts."  Using Fascist rhetoric, and white supremacism as a primer to her feigned environmentalism, which she believed will save America's natural resources. 

She meets opthamologist and Sierra Club environmental group member (at the time), and fellow Eco-Fascist/White Supremist John Tanton in the late 1970s, and already by the mid 70s, May had already said, she would like to seal off the border with Mexico, and force "sterilization" of migrants, pooier communities in America to reduce immigration and the migrant population.  Tanton aware of May's increasing White Supremacist sentiments which were akin to his, convinces her to fund the "Federation for American Immigration Reform".  And in 1980, Tanton gives May a copy of Jean Paul Raspail's 1975 "Charles Scribner’s Sons" out of print Camp of the Saints, and she mentally snaps again, albit with Eco-Fascist rigor, and immediately funds unauthorised copies, yet ok'ed by Raspail, of the failed U.S. sales novel, to be re-promoted as an education manual for Far Right think tanks, and added to University library reading lists, as free, or heavily subsidized Far Right propaganda against non-white migration .

In 1990 John Tanton starts up the Far Right  publishing company, "The Social Contract Press" buying up the long term rights of the English version Camp of the Saints (1975) to keep the anti-immigration, racist book in print, and in similarity to 'other' obscure, Fascist, Neo-Fazi post World War Two authors, books, and literature, in remains part of the Far Right publishing networks within America and Europe.  

Cordelia Scaife May died in 2005. she was 75.  John Tanton died in 2019, he was 85.   Jean Paul Raspail died in 2020, he was 94. 

1980s and 1990s Eco-Fascism dropped, Far Right and Islamophobia racism kept.  Fascists rebrand 1970s immigration scare to 2000s 'Islam invasion'.  Renaud Camus 2011 rewrite.   

 From Left/Socialist/Gay (? he uses some other oddball term now) activist of the 1960s and 1970s, to Fascist, White Supremacist in the late 1990s, the French writer Renaud Camus, who decreed that, by 'intellectually' scavenging, as the Far Right does, even from their own backlogs, that a 'Great Replacement' is occurring, where migration is destroying White Europe, namely from the Middle East, and namely Muslims.  He pens, Le Grand Remplacement ("The Great Replacement"), in 2011, dropping the 1990s Eco-Fascism rebranding ala the collapse of 'white' culture through environmental destruction paranoia, Camus, rejoined Jean Paul Raspai's original 1973 novel back to its original premise without the late Cordelia Scaife May's and John Tanton's Eco-Fascism.  Camus didn't use Raspai's flotilla of ships heading towards Europe and America as the Far Right scare, he makes the claim that the hordes of migrants are taking over Western society, have been already put in place by a cabal of hyper-capitalist elites connected to the World Trade Organization, in some bizzare plan to turn the West into a shopping basket for "manageable"  Muslim migrants, essentially, in Camus paranoid mind, making these migrants hyper consumers, they will eventually, in the end, consume and replace the local European populations with out-of-control consumption.  His 2011 essay hasn't dated very well under its racist, scavenger-esque rebrand of Raspai, and yet, the rebranding began again, within next 14 years of Camus essay, the hyper-consumer element of "The Great Replacement", where the West is being destroyed by waves of African, Middle Eastern Muslim migrants replacing white populations with maniac consumption, has been stripped from away, yes, you can't make this up, by the current big tech moguls, and Fascist adherents and Trump funders, like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel etc, leaving in place Camus cultural 'invasion' of Muslims migrants flooding into Europe, which was set up by open borders, and 'Radical' Left governments, not Camus's original corporate, technological, banker elite. 

On the 18th May 2026, two teenages, Caleb Vazquez, 18, and Cain Clark, 17, opened fire on a San Diego Mosque, killing three people at the Mosque.  They wrote a 74 page manifesto, praising White Supremacist "Christchurch" mass shooter Brenton Tarrant, with references to "The Great Replacement" and "Muslim invaders" replacing white culture.  The two shooters killed themselves after the shooting.
