Boramy Viguier caught my eye with his first showing and now with the second in line, revealed for Viguier's Fall 2019 collection. He maintains a very original and exciting style, which is just so rare at this current point in time. Critiques aside as the backlash in fashion is now slowing down to a snails pace and/or the luxury to exhibit a collection on the runway, passes not just as a privilege, but it also shouldn't be taken for granted. What that means, is that designers have to work harder, if sales are down and overheads/costs are on the rise, mixed with the last of the multi brand acquisitions. It is, do or die.
A crisscross of Eastern and Western styles, fused onto an underground look. A rustic coalescing of pieces set together, yet styled cleverly within its functional aesthetics. Viguier doesn't overly embrace the Avant-garde, rather it is more of a twist on fashion design that holds a practicality. Durable materials intertwined and crafted against the more delicate ensemble, bridging together the dual aspects. And that really adds a new dimension to his uniquely envisioned impression. Reminds me, very slightly, of Rick Owens's take on masculinity and femininity without crossing into the realm of unisex catchphrases - which actually cheapens any visual discernment, ambiguous or otherwise, when portraying styles.
The urban militaristic and mountaineering tough street wise looks are shining through from the 2016 and 2017 seasons. However, Viguier adds the mysterious stranger aspect to both collections, as noted from his Spring 2019 array, which makes male fashion exciting particularly if the next trend in male styles, moving away from immature street-wear looks, is to embrace the inscrutable, dare I say the Dystopian Byronic or the man who cares no less than, I gotta survive, overture.
