“The Earth received this Thursday a very mild Solar Storm event, which caused no major issues to electrical and electronic mainframes throughout the country. Professor Carl Yammer from the New York State University, who studies geomagnetic effects of the Sun on infrastructure, noted that Solar Maximum is now occurring which means there will more visible sunspots on the Sun's service, which are the culprits of what is known as a Coronal Mass Ejections or Solar Flares. Professor Yammer, has said that the event that occurred today is considered a G1 on the K-index, a measure created by German geophysicist Julius Bartels in Nineteen Thirty Nine, which scales the severity of solar storms. The G1 are the more frequent and the less disruptive of the solar storms emitted from the sun, which, explained by Professor Yammer to have very little impact on electrical grids, satellites and telecommunication systems, however it is the more severe G5 storm that can cause widespread damage and even a complete collapse of global electrical grids. With satellites in the upper and lower of Earth's atmospheres, would also be rendered useless. According to astrophysical calculations an event like this is a rare occurrence, but can occur four times within an eleven year solar cycle. Yet, Professor Yammer says the odds increase particularly when the Earth's orbit is aligned towards an active sunspot...”
“Fuck, is she right?...” Kim Liana says, looking down at the cellphone screen, still clutching the phone, she flips over her right hand, noticing some of the tattoos, namely the Alpha and Omega characters of the Greek alphabet have faded on her right index and middle finger, she then checks her nails. “...My nails need doing...” Leaning back into her chair, which is angled so that she is looking up at the now darkened sky. “...and I need dope...I think...” Eyeing the bedside table draw where she keeps her heroin. Liana lifts her mug of hot chocolate, taking a sip. “...This lockdown, maybe soon it will be lifted.” She looks down at the street, peering into the darkness. Liana then stares back up at the sky.
