Chloé Resort 2027 - lookbook

Should we reframe 1980s "Boomer" hedonism not just as an empty indulgence, but as a visceral defensive shield against the Reagan-esque "Moral Majority"? When a terrain of resistance became lost, diluted and then digitally simulated, thanks to 1990s Generation X.   And the shrift from counterculture to the commodification of sexuality under the current Proto-Fascist, and/or Techno-Fascism ethos.  Which default, serves to already suppress any renewed attempt at a liberated counterculture.   So, if that is the case; is sex the ultimate rebellion?  And are we due to take it back from the digital and tabooed excesses?

Chemena Kamali's fascination with that 1970s and early to mid 1980s hedonic cue, be in the liberative prose, defined visually as bohemian imprints, mixed with one night stands, and no-strings-attached fucking in all its amatory necessity, shared chaos, nightclubs, wine, cocktails, cigarettes and yes, cocaine.  Which came with obvious risks and caveats, was precariously balanced on the looming threat of thermonuclear destruction. Yet, the rebellious nature, despite some conservatism lapping at the shores of past decades, held the line well into the 80s.

And it is hard not to romanticize and reminisce those three decades of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, as the standard  on how a society can repel those nasty Far Right elements forever lurking within the confines of suburbia, yearning for a feigned and restrictive, political structure, over change.  Or at least buying into the bullshit of early to current 2000s culture wars.  Kamali isn't offering any clues for a hedonistic revamp, or an impression to rekindle the flames of those rebellious Boomer years, she is however allowing the aesthetics to do the talking.  Kamali, quoting for her Chloé Resort 2027 collection, saying that, "There’s so much power in the past and what a memory can trigger, and this, for me, is what gives meaning" .  And the past, particularly within its powerful resonation, can just do that, give us some meaning.  Or at least, as a psyche nudge, to draw from what was laid down as a creative purpose, and let it be released and renewed into the now.

A liberated, sexy and beautiful collection.
