Peter Dundas of his signature label Dundas, having set down the template to his 1970's and early 1980's esque hedonism, has since maintained his erogenous revolution in its distinction to a bygone era, that has since not be able to duplicate in the 21st Centaury.  So we live in a reminiscence in all of its desired reflection, to which luxury fashion, more so in the last ten years, has showcased as a redux of styles of an era that sex and excess was so tantalizing.  And yes, one has to be reminded of legendary Belgium fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg's quote, who happen to have lived through this period.  From Interview Magazine in 2014: "It was the decade between the pill and AIDS. For us, it was all about liberation."

But is it liberating now?  Living within the 21st Centaury with all its feedback loops via the digital social media networks, the liberation that was defined in the 1960's and 1970's particularly its sexual expression has since been diluted into a simulacrum of novelty.   So, the difficulty of fashion designers who flirt with the said aesthetics, have to not only pay homage to the stylizations of 40 years ago, but also attempt to make it relevant into the now.   It has to be asked.  Has Peter Dundas been able to achieve this with his latest collection?

For his Pre-Fall 2023 collection, there is no doubting that the yeaning of the copular emanating from the Dundas lookbook.  As he returns to the runways in 2023, Dundas has lifted the intensity of the carnal to extreme highs.   With lace and silk, cocktails dresses and miniskirts.   The Pe-Fall array oozes with an intensified sex appeal, in that wanton and anticipation of a one night stand.  Firmly instilled by Dundas's impression, I  do feel the homage is evident in his projection of 70's romanticism, yet the relevancy in today's world remains illusive.

But since we are all living through another cold war, pandemics and societal turmoil that is indeed a reflection of the past.   Why not make love through it all.
