A X-Class solar storm just hit the Earth's magnetic field. Although not on par with the Carrington Event of 1859, which knocked out Earth's electrical grid in its infancy. A massive shape changing sunspot, like the one recorded from 1859, is still active and facing the Earth.
A massive solar storm from the Sun has hit the Earth sparked by a twin sunspots AR3614 and AR3615 exploding simultaneously, these were considered X-Class solar flares, the most extreme on the scale in similarity to the "Carrington Event" of 1859. The image above is from Spaceweather.com, showing the current 'shape changing' sunspot AR3615 which is still facing the Earth, and could delivery another X-Class solar flare. The hand drawn image above AR3615 is from astronomer Richard Carrington's (d1875) observational study, of the sunspot that knocked out the Earth's electrical grid over a Hundred and Sixty years ago. AR3615 looks eerily similar.
