quote: " I. prologue" FROM THE NOVEL: THE GRAFT OF SHADOWS (A. GLASS 2019)
“I'm an author,”
The man nods.
“Many books published?”
“A few…” Madison replies. As he sees the man lift his wallet out from his left side blazer pocket, checking it, he then places it back into the same pocket. To which Madison, discreetly, eyes the movement, he has another sip of his whiskey.
“We have a client who runs a book company,” the younger man says, as the older man looks at him briefly. Knowing that he shouldn't be divulging client information to a stranger. Madison stands, lifting up his blazer, which is placed over the back of the bar stool.
“What sort of books do you write?” The older lawyer asks.
“Science fiction, speculative fiction...” Madison replies, as he leans forward “...My name is Douglass Madison.” Seeing that younger man will shake his hand first, he angles closer to the older lawyer, at this point with his free left hand, he could have easily lifted out the man's wallet. But decides not to, instead he shakes both of their hands, nods respectfully and leaves the bar."
