It was noted in some of my earlier show reviews, particularly the Pre-Fall 2017 fashion trends.  That plaid or tartan maybe one of the style trends going into 2017.  It was not so much the case.  However, other looks gained traction into 2017 and now 2018, namely the blazers, coats, military and mountaineering/survivalist aesthetics.  Which have been prominent on the runways for Men’s Fall 2018 showings in all the Fashion weeks so far.

Junn.J’s Fall 2018 Men’s collection is able, as he has achieved before, to create a dual sex show.  In which female models participate in various male collections that will be the Fall and Winter 2018 pieces for the designer.    As it should be noted, especially with the use and term unisex or androgynous which is used at times in describing dual sex collections.  Women look great in men’s styles, men do not reciprocate the same styling in female clothing.  In other words, we don’t look good in a cocktail dress and high heeled pumps.  So, differentiation of aesthetics between the sexes is important rather than trying to fuse the two, it is solely the female that is able to incorporate masculine styles –  as an effortless aspect of feminine androgyny.

The South Korean designer maintains the architectural  theme of building or layering around the human form.   An ode to the master Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garçons), if not intentional, shows the extent of Junn.J’s influences.  That form, within fashion, can be built around.  The skill is to create a visual dynamic that is unique yet assessable, Junn.J has achieved this with his Fall 2018 collection.

Junn.J has incorporated plaid as a folded wrapped style on some of the pieces, wool being heavy set material than cotton, it therefor drapes, which in turn can create a very distinct look.  Re-cut Puffy jackets, tired around as neck pieces and used as hoods on some of the models.  Over sized long trench coats with variants of tartan lining.  Militarist/survivalist  styled bomber and polyamide (material) long jackets enveloping each other.   Also noted is the inscribed wording from Junn.J on some of the coats inside lining.  “We are the stars lapped in skin, the light you are seeking has always been within.”

The color palette is mostly of a neutral array with the use of  traditional plaid pattern and coloring.  Also noted are the use of  navy blues, reds, yellows, greens/khaki highlighted against black, white and greys.
