Reading: "Oracles Mysterium" from EVENFALL OF THE HELICAL (A.Glass 2022)

 

“All day long it’s in and out. I discharge loads from my shaft. Both men and women go down on me. What am I?”

Adalyn laughs. “Oh dear me...a little explicit, not as, say metaphysical, scientific or even esoteric sounding. Definitely up your alley Robert...” She flips the screen around so that her two sales assistants can view the text. They giggle at the dialogue.

“...Alright, so what is it?”

“An elevator!” Robert replies.

Adalyn rolls her eyes. “Gotta change it, the full site goes live tomorrow.”

“Of course, I have a more appropriate Riddle I'll upload tonight.”

“And?” Adalyn asks

“What can you hold in your right hand, but never in your left hand?”

All three women look at Hensley who lifts his left hand.

“Your left hand!”

“That's the one, use it. Ok, so, Robert, overall. What is your impression of the site, links, layout, everything?”

“I like it a lot, it's got the style and vibe of the store.”

“Have you checked out the online ordering?” Adalyn asks, removing her reading glasses.

“I did”

“Thoughts?”

“Well, online ordering and distribution channels have been set up...” He then points to Jane and Tammas. “...Then it would be the sale assistants who would cover the packing and mail out.”

Adayln leans back, she looks at the two younger women sitting opposite site of her at the café table.

“Could be late nights, you'll get paid correctly, also...” Pointing with her left index finger at Hensley her assistant Manager, she inverts her right hand and index finger so it point’s at her own chest. “….Robert and I will also assist...” Having another sip of her coffee, holding it up in her right hand, feeling relaxed, yet nervous about the opening this coming Friday. “...Of course, pertaining that we get a flood of online orders.”

“Well I'm doing your social media,” Hensley replies in a coy manner, whilst shaking his shoulders left and right.

“Yeah and yous be the king...or queen of Pictogram...”

“That'll be me!” Hensley replies, leaning forward, Adayln with both hands pulls her croissant apart, viewing the pastry stretch, as it divides into two halves, she then splits it so it becomes two quarter size pieces. Lifting up a one of the smaller pieces with her left hand, she bits down, chewing it slowly, swallowing, sipping from the coffee with her free hand. Placing both of her elbows onto the table, Adayln holds the latte glass with both hands, whilst looking at the three people sitting in front of her. “That was nice and buttery and the coffee, perfecto. Ok, tomorrow is the big day everyone, so be early, 8.00 am. We check over the shop, all the stock and pick outfits for the night, to which you'll be wearing for the opening. Also, we'll go through the VIP list, catering and ensuring the DJ is ready for evening. Well, that’s it for today. I'll see you all tomorrow. Order yourself another round of coffees if you like, takeaway. Adayln stands, as does her three staff members, as she makes her way to the café counter to pay, reaching into her tote handbag with its crinkled stylized look, lifting out her purse.

“I'm good sweetie, no more coffee for me,” Hensley says, as he had Adalyn embrace.

“You did a great job Robert,” Adalyn replies, about to scan her card, she turns to the young man behind the counter. “...Two strong lattes for my two beauties,” pointing at the two young woman standing behind her and Hensley, both smiling in an appreciative manner. She then scans the card.

“See you all tomorrow,” Hensley says, as he waves and leaves the café.

Adalyn quickly waves back, as does her two sales assistants, whilst at the time slotting her debit card back into her purse.

“You both want a lift anywhere?” Adalyn asks, slinging the tote bag over her left shoulder.

“Thanks, but we'll bus it back into the city,” Tammas replies.

“Alright, I'll see you both tomorrow,” Adalyn says, as the barista hands the lattes to the two young women, they wave Adalyn goodbye, as she leaves the café.
